Ascending are a pair of wall-hanging music synthesizer / sequencers. Each instrument, in the form of a primitive organism, provides a user-controllable melody-creation environment, allowing a participant to tweak one of a set of pre-programmed songs, or create a new one. Songs are saved and retrieved using a custom iPhone app.  Although each instrument appears to have many controls, it is designed to be easy to learn and use; the goal is musical exploration.  The two instruments are wirelessly synchronized; together they are capable of a broad range of complex and interesting musical compositions.
