Artist’s Statement

“Playing Together” is a theme that runs deep in my work. Shared activities with toys and games, and communal music-making have been hugely important to me since childhood.  It’s no accident that the word “play” applies to both;  I seek to explore that connection. 

I’m inspired by the beauty of the natural world, and am intrigued by patterns and geometry. Circuses, carnivals, “The Wizard of Oz,” “Yellow Submarine” have been very influential. I love things made by hand – wood, metals, clay – the feel of a well-crafted, lovingly-designed object fills me with delight.

As a toy-maker, tool-designer, world-builder, and musician, I find joy in creating play spaces for children of all ages to join in a sense of wonder, fun, and collaborative creation. My ceramic sculptures, in the forms of fantastic creatures, make fascinating moving light patterns, melodies, and respond to anyone who plays with them.

My art goes beyond aesthetics; it embodies the spirit of playfulness and community. I hope that my creations will not only inspire but also foster deeper connections among those who experience it. ‘
